Psychological Assessments
The process of incorporating information from a variety of sources to gain insight into a person's psychological functioning, behaviours, needs, and strengths. Formal assessments are separate from counselling or psychotherapy and result in a detailed report with recommendations.
Our Assessments
Accident Benefits
Diagnostic
Wait lists for psychiatrists can be long. Individuals who have mental health benefits, or who are comfortable paying 'out of pocket' can get a diagnostic assessment from a private psychologist. We are able to provide DSM-5 TR and ICD-11 diagnoses.
When people experience mental health symptoms after a motor vehicle or other accident, a psychological assessment may be needed. Our assessments can help determine benefit eligibility
Capacity
Workplace Injuries
Making a recommendation about an individual's ability to make their own decisions is a serious undertaking. Kelly is a trained capacity assessor. She will conduct home visits, speak with collateral source and references, and include objective assessment instruments to ensure capacity is accurately assessed.
Mental health injuries can occur from repeated or isolated traumatic experiences, or from stress or bullying, among other causes. If you think that your mental health may have been impacted by your employment, an assessment can help. We can helkp determine the injury, if it may be due to your employment, and what accommodations or limitations you need.
Veterans
As a veteran herself, Kelly is passionate about ensuring current or former military members get the supports and services they need. She is a registered provider under VAC and PCVRS. Assessments are often required to determine the need for and types of benefits.
Forensic
Kelly offers various criminal risk assessments. She also offers services to support assessments for family law matters related to practice note 7.
FAQ about Assessments
Why get an Assessment
There are different assessments and reports for different needs and goals. Some people want a psychological assessment for accommodations, or because a third party requires the information. Other times, people might get an assessment so they have a greater understanding of themselves. Or, when people have concerns about possible risks, assessments can help clarify those risks.
Why get an Assessment From MInd Fit Psychological Services?
Before committing to an assessment with Mind Fit, we'll discuss your reasons for wanting the assessment, so you can feel confident you'll get the info you want. We offer diagnostic, capacity, personality, criminal risk, fitness for work/ duty, and (soon) psychoeducational. Unlike other providers, we offer customized assessments and billing that reflects actual work completed. Our reports contain helpful recommendations that you can use to improve your mental health and performance in various roles.
Why shouldn't you get an assessment from Mindfit Psychological Services?
We don't offer every type of psychological assessment. If we don't think we can help answer your questions, we won't waste your time or money. Some people want an assessment for a specific answer or recommendation. If you think you'll be disappointed if you don't get the answer or recommendations you want, then a psychological assessment might not be the best choice
How much does an Assessment cost and how long does it take?
Because there are so many different kinds of assessments, and no two people are the same, it is difficult to provide a precise times estimate. At Mind Fit Psychological Services, we understand that people require flexible scheduling. In some situations a 20 hour long assessment can be completed in one week. In other situations, we may need several weeks to get all the information. Similarly, we use a variety of assessment methods and instruments. Psychological assessment instruments can vary in cost and time required to complete, score and interpret. Every assessment begins with an intake appointment. After this appointment, you'll have an estimate for the required time and cost of your personalized assessment.
How can I prepare for my Assessment?
Psychological assessments are different than many other evaluations or assessments you may have completed- there is no pass/ fail. Prepare to answer personal questions honestly and try to identify important moments in your past. For example, when you noticed signs or symptoms start, how and when they changed, and what was going on in your life when these changes happened. We know that many people feel anxiety about the assessment process or might feel uncomfortable answering personal questions, the first time they meet their psychologist. We like to conduct assessments over at least a few days. So, if you have a bad day, your assessment won't be based on that one moment in time. However, in some situations, multi-day assessments are not possible. We conduct thorough file reviews, or get consent to talk to references. This helps us to gain a good understanding of your history and baseline, even when we cannot meet you multiple times.
